Care

What do we mean with Care? We believe that care implies helping one in need and that is quite a broad definition. To give you a better idea, here a few examples of care and its placements: Care can be changing diapers in a day care, accompany abused women while doing grocery shopping, playing football with handicapped adolescents and chit chatting with homeless elderly. A Care placement includes all daily activities that are related to taking care of the physical and mental wellbeing of persons. It can also contain simple healthcare tasks, such as applying your First Aid knowledge to clean an injured knee and helping brushing little teeth. Of course, the most important job is giving lots of affection and warmth to the one you are assisting. It is such a simple and at the same time multifaceted job, that it can be fulfilled by everyone with good spirit, open mind and lots of enthusiasm. Therefore this category has no age limits, nor requires special knowledge. You, as a future volunteer, can choose whether you prefer helping children, the elderly, the conditioned or the disabled.

Care - Children

Children everywhere need that hug, that genuine smile, that hand who takes them out of their daily routine and into a new world of intercultural exchange. A small gesture such as cleaning a dirty nose truly contributes to their happiness. Children are always hungry for having fun, of sharing their friendship in exchange of learning to count in a foreign language. Our Care - Children Volunteer placements imply tasks from serving breakfast at a social kindergarten and playing football, to making little trips with adolescents, but can also involve simple teach tasks, such as assisting the school-going children with their homework. Even when there are no specific task-descriptions at the beginning of your placement and you have to figure out yourself how to help, remember that just being there has a positive impact on the children’s life. Here below you will find placements in kindergartens, orphanages, day cares and so on.

Care - Elderly

After a long life of hard working, everyone should enjoy a nice, quiet old day. Unfortunately, this is not the case for many elderly in Central and South America. Due to personal, economical or social circumstances, many aged find themselves alone and living in homes or shelters. Volunteers are welcome to cheer up their day! At first sight, this appears not to be one of the most attractive categories for the typical volunteer, but those who are willing to give it a try and dedicate their time to those who have earned our respect and affection, will certainly not regret it! Generally the job is quite easy and placement tasks examples are accompanying the elderly, assisting the regular staff with daily duties and setting up new entertaining activities.

Care - Conditioned

Our Care - Conditioned placements stand for lending a hand in carefully selected local organizations that focus on helping society's most vulnerable people in order to make their lives rewarding and more complete. What means being conditioned or being socially vulnerable? When we talk about Care - Conditioned placements, we talk about helping out in projects which assist people who, for example, are suffering from AIDS or HIV, who have had a troubled past and are trying to recover (think of the homeless, drug addicts, prisoners, sex workers and so on). Tasks consist of assisting the staff, helping the locals with their daily activities and setting up new entertaining workshops

Care - Disabled

Disabled or specially gifted? There are two ways to think about people who have physical or mental dysfunctions and it is up to every individual how to approach our fellow human beings. In our Volunteer Program we are convinced that they are special with unique talents and that all Care - Disabled placements are the most rewarding jobs that anyone can do. Volunteering here means offering adequate help to everyone, wherever and whenever needed, no matter how insignificant the task may appear to be.
