Even with all its cultural and natural richness, Guatemala is still a developing country and can use a hand assisting the children and youth deciding their own future, conserving the rich flora and fauna and supporting those who are less integrated in the Guatemalan society. The education system of Guatemala is fighting with a lot of problems that are stretching to the entire educational scope. There’s a lot to do in Guatemala: starting from infrastructure improvement all the way to teacher training improvement going through a much needed awareness about discrimination of the indigenous population. A lot of indigenous parents don’t think their children need education because the syllabus doesn’t include Mayan language, culture or history. Education is a way of embracing new cultures and sharing your own! Come and volunteer in Guatemala and do your bit for global cultural awareness!
