Santo Domingo Facts:

Santo Domingo is located along the Caribbean Sea. Because of its unique location, Santo Domingo boasts an impressive harbour for commercial and tourist purposes.
Santo Domingo is known for being the most dominant city in the Dominican Republic with its defensive fort, hospitals, universities, and other cultural features. The city’s cobblestoned streets and colourful houses evoke a romantic feel from ancient times.
Old Santo Domingo has plenty of sites to visit once and again. Colon Park is quite pleasant, surrounded by majestic colonial and Victorian buildings, and the Cathedral, the oldest in the American Continent. Take a stroll through Calle de las Damas, a cobblestoned street and oldest road of the city. Plaza España is a spacious square with many Casas Reales (Royal Houses) and a stunning museum. The best of the city
|
Jardín Botánico Nacional: Its lush grounds includes vast areas devoted to aquatic plants, orchids, bromeliads, ferns, endemic plants, palm trees, a Japanese garden and much more. The on-site Ecological Museum exhibits and explains the major ecosystems found in the DR, including mangroves and cloud forests, plus a special display on Parque Nacional Los Haitises. |
La Casa del Cordón: It is a building in the city of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It was the first stone house in America and probably the first of two levels. Its name comes from the cord that comes in its facade, which is associated with the Franciscan order. |
|
Monasterio de San Francisco: it was the first monastery in the New World and belonged to the first order of Franciscan friars who arrived to evangelize the island. Dating from 1508. Today its dramatic set of ruins is occasionally used to stage concerts and artistic performances. |
Parque Nacional Los Tres Ojos: is a cave that has a freshwater lake, divided naturally into three lakes that are only from within a single lake you can see without having to be inside. A natural wonder. |
|
Plaza de la Cultura: This amazing complex is home of the National Theater and five museums, There you'll find the Museum of Modern Art, the largest in the Caribbean, and home to exhibits by artists from Jamaica, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and of course, the Dominican Republic. If you want a nice beautiful garden to read or talk, this is your place. |
Parque Mirador Sur: Since 1970, the park has attracted visitors to its caves, which were used for rituals by the indigenous inhabitants of the island. Other features of the park include murals by Jose Ramirez Conde and Amable Sterling, the statue of Caonabo de Abelardo Rodriguez Urdaneta, the Poetry Fountain by Juan de Avalos, restaurants, children's playgrounds and an artificial lake with rowboats. |
Transport
The capital has an international airport. In Santo Domingo the most expensive option, but the fastest, are the taxis. There are private companies available 24/7. The price is the same for any distance within the city, 100 Dominican pesos. The cheapest option is the public transport, known as "carros públicos". Buses and "moto-conchos" are very unexpensive ways to move around Santo Domingo.
Climate
The average temperature in Santo Domingo varies a little, because the tropical trade winds help mitigate the heat and humidity throughout the year. Thanks to these trade winds, Santo Domingo has a tropical climate but seldom experiences the oppressive heat and humidity that one may expect to find. December and January are the coolest months and July and August are the warmest.

2. What happens if there is not a course available for my level?
If there isn’t a Spanish course according to your level, a course will be opened for you specially and you will have individual lessons until other students with the same level of Spanish arrive. The price of these individual lessons will keep the same as the group ones.
3. Can I take my lessons in different destinations?
You can take your Spanish lessons in different places in various countries in Latin America. It is possible to combine destinations in any of our schools in Latin America or Spain without extra charge. You will find the same teaching method in all our Spanish schools.
4. Will I get a certificate after finishing the program?
Yes, you will get a certificate that specifies the level of Spanish achieved and the amount of hours you have taken. You will get also a progress report which includes the skills developed during your course and a recommendation letter from your teacher.
5. Will I receive university credits?
You can receive university credits for attending to our schools but you should first visit your school’s language department in order to know the specific requirements. Common requests from universities are: course syllabus, talking to other teachers who know the program, classroom hours, course levels, academic policies, receiving progress reports from your teachers while abroad and giving you a test upon your return. We will help you gather all the necessary paperwork and you may schedule an interview with your academic advisor if needed.

Our methods combine both theory and practice, addressing all of the linguistic and functional pragmatic aspects of the spoken language, along with key socio-cultural information essential for you to gain proficiency and in order to achieve your goals.
