Santiago Facts- Privileged location, near mountains and just a few km. away from beaches. - Active nightlife, many tourist attractions and adventure sports options. - Cultural, commercial, industrial and political capitol of the country. |

Santiago is located in the central valley of the country. It is an important cultural, commercial, industrial, and political gateway. This city is a modernized metropolis very renowned for having one of Latin America's most dynamic economies.
Both credited as cultural and modern, this is a typical Latin American city with quite an active nightlife. There are a lot of tourist attractions and adventure sports to participate in as well.
Santiago de Chile has multiple options for everybody, like Pablo Neruda's Home, the romantic hideaway of the famous poet and his wife Matilde; Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, with a great collection of Latin American aboriginal artifacts and paintings; and San Cristobal Hill, with a zoo, a wine museum and a gondola ride to the top. Outside the capital you should go to Valle Nevado, Chile's largest ski resort; Santa Lucia Hill, the most exuberant hill of Santiago; Rio Clarillo National Reserve, the last refuge for the sclerophyllous forest and protected animal species

The best of the city
|
La Chascona: Neruda's home showcases art and craft pieces he brought back to Santiago from his international travels. Guided tours give visitors the best opportunity to get the back-story on this fascinating landmark. |
Bellavista: Chic neighborhood on the south bank of the Mapocho River. By day, visitors to the area can shop for trendy items in the small shops and boutiques that populate the street, while at night, socialites can party into the wee hours of the morning at its clubs and bars. |
|
Museo de Arte Precolombino: It showcases artifacts from both Central and South America and includes textiles and ceramics, art and metalwork. There is also an on-site café and museum shop that sells reproductions of pieces displayed here. |
Parque forestal: A variety of flora and fauna is planted here and draws scores of people on weekends for relaxing walks and people-watching. The park is also home to the Estacion Mapocho train station and is just a short walk from nearby dining, shopping and sightseeing destinations. |
|
Cerro San Cristobal: It offers a choice spot in the city for panoramic views on clear days. Walk or ride to the summit where the views of Santiago below are a patchwork quilt meeting the breathtaking peaks of the Andes beyond. |
Plaza de armas: It is surrounded by the Palacio de los Gobernadores, the Palacio de la Real Audiencia and the Municipalidad de Santiago. While here, take a bit of time to relax and watch the mix of people who make this South American capital an ever-growing, well-traveled destination. |
Transport
Metro, buses and taxis make moving about Santiago easy. One of the best ways to get around Santiago is using its clean, efficient Metro system. Five lines connect various points of the city. The bus network traverses the entirety of the city but it is not the popular choice for tourists since the metro system runs through most areas attractive to visitors.
Climate
Santiago has a Mediterranean climate. Hot dry summers (November to March) with temperatures reaching up to 35ºC (95ºF) on the hottest days; winters (June to August) are humid with cold mornings with a typical maximum daily temperature of 13ºC (56ºF), and a minimum of a few degrees above freezing.

Food & Drinks |
Music & Dance |
|
The food traditions stand out due to the varieties in flavors and colors. The country's long coastline and the Chilean people relationship with the sea adds an immense array of ocean products to their recipes. |
It has a very rich folklore music scattered in different geographical zones: northern, central, and southern, each with their own characteristics and sounds. Other musical expressions are Easter Island music and Mapuche music. |
|
|
Cinema |
|
Always avant-garde, all tendencies are manifested in Chilean plastic arts, with creators who have contributed to universal art, as is the case with Roberto Matta. |
Even though the cinematic culture didn't fully developed untill the '70s today national cinema is alive and kicking. You can see online subtitled versions of movies like "Machuca", "Taxi para 3" and "El chacotero sentimental". |
Science and technology |
Sports |
|
Chile has 22 institutes conducting research in agriculture, medicine, natural sciences, and technology, as well as the European Southern Observatory. At least 27 colleges and universities offer degrees in basic and applied sciences. |
The most representative sport is soccer, however, the most successful is tennis. In rural areas, the most practiced sport is rodeo, which is the national sport, and is considered to be the second most popular sport after soccer. |
Spare time |
Literature |
|
Life in Chile is very family oriented so they spend much of their time together. Young Chileans like to get together at friends’ houses or go to movies, gather in the town square, go to parties, or just hang out in the local café. |
The most famous literature has come from Nobel Prize poets Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, whose homes and birthplaces are now museums that attract literary pilgrims to Chile. |

You will take a placement test on your first day to establish the Spanish course level you will attend to. You may change levels depending on your learning skills.
What happens if there is not a course available for my level?
If there isn’t a Spanish course according to your level, a course will be opened for you specially and you will have individual lessons until other students with the same level of Spanish arrive. The price of these individual lessons will keep the same as the group ones.
Can I take my lessons in different destinations?
You can take your Spanish lessons in different places in various countries in Latin America. It is possible to combine destinations in any of our schools in Latin America or Spain without extra charge. You will find the same teaching method in all our Spanish schools.
Will I get a certificate after finishing the program?
Yes, you will get a certificate that specifies the level of Spanish achieved and the amount of hours you have taken. You will get also a progress report which includes the skills developed during your course and a recommendation letter from your teacher.
Will I receive university credits?
You can receive university credits for attending to our schools but you should first visit your school’s language department in order to know the specific requirements. Common requests from universities are: course syllabus, talking to other teachers who know the program, classroom hours, course levels, academic policies, receiving progress reports from your teachers while abroad and giving you a test upon your return. We will help you gather all the necessary paperwork and you may schedule an interview with your academic advisor if needed.
How am I going to develop my Spanish skills?
Our methods combine both theory and practice, addressing all of the linguistic and functional pragmatic aspects of the spoken language, along with key socio-cultural information essential for you to gain proficiency and in order to achieve your goals. Grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking and vocabulary are always integrated in order to approximate you to an authentic communicative environment.
You will begin with practical situations. Grammar lessons will be introduced gradually during the process. Lessons' topics and contents are related to daily life’s situations.
How many levels are there?
COINED offers 3 different levels following the requisites and guidelines from the Common European Framework of Reference. Each level is divided into 2 sublevels varying from lesser to greater linguistic capability: Basic (A), Intermediate (B), Advanced (C).
How many lessons do I need to reach a different level?
It depends on the level you already have, the one you want to reach and the kind of program you are taking. If you are a beginner, it takes approximately 40 to 60 group lessons per week to get you into the next level. But if you don’t have enough time you can reduce the time at half by achieving the same level with private lessons. For further information please contact us. We will be happy to help.
Is the study material included in the Spanish course?
In almost every destination the study material, according to your level, is included. In case you choose a destination that doesn't include it, we will let you know.

Afternoon classes (2 PM to 6 PM) are usually reserved for students requesting additional hours or different programs.
Many days include school activities in the afternoon or the evening.
When do I have to register to the program?
You should register at least four weeks before the program starts to guarantee you a spot in our schools. For bookins done lless than four weeks before the start date, we cannot guarantee your place in a group but you can write or call us to check for availability in such cases.
If I want to combine destinations, do I have to register at each separate location?
