About Cuzco

Video and Map          The best of the city          Featured trips          Transport           ClimateSpanish course in Cusco

Located in south-eastern part of Peru, near the Sacred Valley of the Andes Mountains, Cuzco is the historical capital of the Incan Empire. Today, centuries later, the city has maintained that amazing cultural charm.
As a  result for a vivid history we have a blend of cultures, with many layers of history, and many places to visit, to understand, and to discover. Cuzco remains one of the most radiant expressions of Amerindian and mestizo; a mix of aborigins and Spaniards, a population and culture in all the American continents. The city displays local traditions, rituals, beliefs, festivals, monuments, and natural sceneries whose beauty can only be grasped once there.
Spanish course in Cusco

Take your time to stroll through the city and stop by at any cultural or historic place you come across. Plaza de Armas is the main square of the city and the focal departure point for any visit. This site isn’t just a simple square, so pay attention to all the details it discloses to you. Next to it, you’ll see two of Cuzco’s most prominent churches. In the outskirts, you should visit Qoricancha or Temple of the Sun and the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art to have a profound insight of Inca’s culture. Some Inca’s ruins are still quite intact in Sacsayhuaman, Puca Purara, Tambomachay, among a dozen of other sites.

Moray: is an archaeological site in Peru approximately 50 km of Cuzco. The site contains unusual Inca ruins, mostly consisting of several enormous terraced circular depressions, which purpose is uncertain, but their depth and orientation with respect to wind and sun creates a temperature difference of as much as 15 °C (27 °F) between the top and bottom.

Machu Picchu: This famous  pre-Columbian 15th-century Inca site located 2,430 metres (7,970 ft) above sea level. Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, Machu Picchu was voted one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in a worldwide Internet poll.

The best of the city

Qorikancha: It was  the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated primarily to Inti, the Sun God. It was one of the most revered temples of the capital city of Cuzco. The Spanish colonists built the Church of Santo Domingo on the site, demolishing the temple and using its foundations for the cathedral. Construction took most of a century. This is one of numerous sites where the Spanish incorporated Inca stonework into the structure of a colonial building.

Plaza de las  Armas: Walk around the Plaza de Armas; the square has  churches, shops, restaurants and bars backing on to it and is  a great place to spend an afternoon. The historical center of Cuzco is beautiful, but you will have to deal with all the street vendors and hawkers of cheap paintings and other souvenirs.

Cathedral of Cuzco: is the main temple of the city and houses the headquarters of the Diocese of Cuzco. It is the most important religious monument of the historic center and a building that you must visit during your stay in this wonderful city.

Walls of Cuzco: Another brilliant example of Inca architecture. A witness of the rich history of the city of Cuzco.

Barrio de San Blas:In this neighborhood are concentrated artisans, workshops and craft shops, is one of the most picturesque places in the city. Its streets are steep and narrow with old houses built by Spanish over important Inca foundations.

Hatun Rumiyuq Street: This is the most visited by tourists. On the street Hatun Rumiyoq ("Of the Rock Mayor") was the palace of Inca Roca, which now belongs to the Archbishop Palace. Take a walk thorugh time going around this magical street in Cuzco.
