I’ve really enjoyed studying in Buenos Aires. I just wish that I had longer than a week here! I feel that I’ve learned a lot considering the short amount of time. The course was really well structured, the teacher we’ve had was brilliant. She was really patient the whole time, very clear and encouraging. All the lessons were interesting and engaging and at just the right level to be challenging but not too difficult.

Buenos Aires Facts

- Financial, commercial, industrial, cultural and political capital of the country.

- It offers several cultural attractions and an ample glimpse of urban cosmopolitan life.

- Varied architecture and rich European heritage.

- Tango's birth place.

Buenos Aires is a city of contrasts that offers European sensibilities and Latin American passion; wide boulevards and cobblestone alleys; steamy tango and wild rock and roll; sidewalk cafés and soccer fanatics.
Complex, energetic, and seductive, it stretches south-to-north along the Rio de la Plata and has been the gateway to Argentina for centuries.

The city's neighbourhoods are small and highly individualized, each with its own characteristic colors and forms. Discover traditional La Boca, bohemian San Telmo, trendy Palermo, cultural Recoleta and the renewed Puerto Madero and let this city win your heart over.
For all its diversity, the spirit of Argentina as a country is present everywhere in Buenos Aires. The tango, is perhaps the best expression of that spirit-practiced in dance halls, parks, open plazas, and ballrooms, it is a dance of intimate separation and common rhythm, combining both elegance and passion...

Featured trips

Quebrada del condorito

Colonia, Uruguay: Colonial town with narrow cobbled streets flanked by whitewashed buildings located only at 2 hour ferry ride away from Buenos Aires.

Jesuit estancia

Mar del Plata: Touristic spot know for its crowded beaches, the variety of Revue theater plays, and the food. This city claims the country's best pasta and fish dishes.

The best of the city

Teatro Colón: One of the best theaters in the world regarding acoustics and artistic value of its construction. It is located in the heart of downtown Buenos Aires. In 2006 it closed for renovations and in 2010 the project worth around 100 million dollars was finished and it reopened its doors in a grand classic arts diplay evening.

San Telmo: The oldest district in Buenos Aires and the most bohemian. It has a great vibe with music coming from everywhere, people having fun, dancing tango and shopping! You'll see street artists in every corner and enjoy the famous antiques market held on Sundays in Plaza Dorrego.

Caminito: An open sky museum, that can take you back to when tango was confined to brothels. There you can see old “Conventillos” (the houses where poor families used to live – and some still today) turned into small shopping centres and for sure you are going to see some Tango on the streets and restaurants.

Puerto Madero: You'll find 19th century docks that today features a residential area along with high-end restaurants and hotels. A lot of the former warehouses and dockyards have been restored and there are some attractions to visit.

Plaza Francia: Great park surrounded by art museums, exposition stores, cultural and design centers and historic places, among others and it is home to a large market, selling handcrafted items.

Café Tortoni: The most famous cafe in all of Argentina, patronized by celebrities since 1858. Famous "Chocolate con Churros" (hot chocolate with sticks of fried sweet pastry for dipping) this bar is as Buenos Aires as it can get.

Transport

There are lots of means of transportation which makes of Buenos Aires an easy-to-get-around city despite of its size. The city has a large network of buses, locally called "Colectivos". There are 144  lines, each one identified with a number and different colors. The ticket is paid on the bus with coins only.
Another way to move around are Taxis. They are black with the roof painted yellow, they roam the city streets 24 hours a day and you can either flag them on the streets or call them for a pick up. Without a doubt, the fastest way to get from one place to another is the subway which is very reliable and it covers the center and the outskirts of the city with five lines identified with letters (A, B, C, D and E). You can also use the train taking it at any of the four Train Terminals that connect the Capital Federal with the suburbs.

Climate

Buenos Aires’ climate is generally pleasant, with an annual rainfall of 900mm spread evenly throughout the year. It has a changeable spring, hot and humid summer and mild fall and moderate winter temperatures.
The best seasons to visit Buenos Aires are spring (September to November) and fall (March to May) because of the mild weather and also because most festivals take place during these months, as do a lot of sporting events. Winter can be cold but not freezing, so it's  a fine time to enjoy the city’s theaters, museums and cafés. Summer can be very humid, but there are also a lot of things to do.

Our Teachers

Our Staff in the Spanish School Buenos Aires

Our teachers are dynamic, friendly and motivated. Each school selects them because of their education, teaching experience, interpersonal and professional skills, cultural background, patience and enthusiasm. Our method emphasizes the interaction that is both our goal and our educational mean. We train our students linguistically, so that they leave our classrooms and can manage themselves "out there" alone.

"I think I really lucked out with my teachers. They were both interesting and had creative ways of teaching. Karlita had us teach sometimes. Fredy had us interview people about concepts or vocab, so much fun. My favorite part was when we would stray from the grammar and Fredy would talk about history and Mayan Culture & the civil war. That is what I emailed home about all the history I was learning! They were patient with our mistakes, encouraged us to talk more. I will definitely be back someday. I will pass on this information to everyone in my home town! Thank you!"

“Yesterday was amazing. I had never before felt so welcome. It was a wonderful experience. The students who showed us around spoke English very well. The band was great; they played two songs especially for us. It was interesting to see how the school gets in formation every morning. We don’t do that in all schools in the States. I have only seen it at one private school before. We got to see different classes. All of the students were gracious to us. The teachers were very kind to let us interrupt their lessons. We got to talk at length to the Senior students and the Administration both about serious issues and for fun. I learned a lot about the school system and it was very valuable for me to see first hand the similarities and differences from the United States system. I didn’t want to leave and I wish we could go back to the school. I have enjoyed the experiences of the last few days so far. I liked seeing the architecture of Argentina as well as learning some history. It is hard to image the time of the dictatorship but it has  been valuable to hear about it. The Spanish lessons have helped me when we don’t have guides in the city. I really enjoyed seeing (and smelling) the cows today. I was very interested in the history of beef in Argentina. I still have a long way to go before I understand but I am excited to learn more.”

“This trip has really shown me the beauty of Argentina. It’s people and their love of America and their own culture is wonderful and comforting to see. The citie’s beautiful, organic and simplistic architecture has changed my view of the environment and its economy. To see how art is so important and applicable in the student’s lives and education, has given me a sense of art’s power and how universal it is. Experiencing the Art of Argentina has encouraged and increased my desire to teach art. I have been shown by the Argentine students how good teaching can change a life. No matter what the subject, whether it is art or science, the teacher has the ability to assist the student in finding success, joy and beauty in their lives.”

“My first three days in Argentina have been filled with exciting new adventures and experiences. The day we arrived I was a little overwhelmed by the huge size, diversity, and population of an unfamiliar place. However, after walking around a lot on the second day and going to school at COINED where I could learn some Spanish, I felt more confident that I could get around on my own when necessary. Yesterday, I really enjoyed going to visit the Dr. Dámaso Centeno school in Caballito. It was one of the neatest things I’ve ever done! The students and teachers gave us an exceptional welcome and were extremely kind and helpful. I really felt there was a good exchange cultural knowledge and awareness. This experience was something that I will never forget, and I am very grateful for the individuals at COINED who were the ones that are making this happen for us. At the COINED headquarters, I have also enjoyed our lessons regarding Argentine history and culture. Everything I have encountered so far has been new and interesting. I appreciate all of the kindness I have received from the people in Argentina and look forward to the next four days.”

North American,

Buenos Aires
English,

He disfrutado mucho estudiando en Buenos Aires.

¡Seguramente voy a volver!

Argentina Facts

- Eighth largest country in the world.

- Great diversity of landscapes, culture & traditions.

- Travel options for all budgets.

- Argentines' hospitality help you learn Spanish easy and fast.

- Well known for the high level of education of its people.

Patagonia

Argentina borders Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Paraguay, and it is the eighth largest country in the world, second only to Brazil in terms of size and population in South America. The population mix of Argentina is very different from the rest of Latin America as it is mostly European. However, you can still experience "traditional life" in the northern provinces of Salta and Jujuy. These provinces resemble the Andean nations of Bolivia and Peru and differ culturally from those of the Pampas. Archaeological sites, volcanoes, small Indian villages, and nature reserves can be found in this area.

Argentina is a country of European traditions that loves modernity and diversity. You will get a guaranteed immersion in its culture helped by its chatty, resourceful and kind people. On top of that, Argentina has every natural beauty you can think of: the mighty Andes, the wide Río de la Plata and the famous Iguaçu Falls. Magnificence on each end like the southern glaciers and the northern “Calchaquíes” Valleys going through the pampas in the center!
Now is a great time to visit, so get your spirit in gear and prepare for an unforgettable adventure!

Tango is the biggest attraction but not the only one! Argentina has other folklore music styles characterized for being joyful and easy to follow when dancing.

Plastic Arts

Cinema

You’ll find from classical artists with European influences like Fernando Fader or Lino Enea Spilimbergo to modern with American influences like Marta Minujín, one of Andy Warhol's most esteemed fellow conceptual artists.

Get moved to tears or laugh your heart out with the more than 2,500 full-length titles! Some of them like "El secreto de sus ojos", “La historia oficial” or “9 reinas” have achieved international recognition in recent decades.

Science and technology

Sports

A very active student life characterizes every major city in the country. Students fill every class room (to point that they have to sit on the floor), every library and lab.

Soccer is a major part of the country’s culture. Every single Argentinean is passionate about this sport all year long, especially during World Cup. Argentinean athletes are recognized in tennis, basketball, women’s hockey, golf and rugby as well.

Spare time

Literature

This is a huge chapter on Argentineans life.Normally, families are very close, and spend Sunday’s lunch together. You can show up, unannounced, at an Argentinean’s house and the host will make you feel welcome as automatically starts heating water to prepare “mate”.

In every corner of the country you can visit historical spots recognized because of their presence in the works of well-known writers such as Jorge Luis Borges, Adolfo Bioy Casares and Julio Cortázar.

1. How is my Spanish level determined?

You will take a placement test on your first day to establish the Spanish course level you will attend to. You may change levels depending on your learning skills.

2. What happens if there is not a course available for my level?

If there isn’t a Spanish course according to your level, a course will be opened for you specially and you will have individual lessons until other students with the same level of Spanish arrive. The price of these individual lessons will keep the same as the group ones.

3. Can I take my lessons in different destinations?

You can take your Spanish lessons in different places in various countries in Latin America. It is possible to combine destinations in any of our schools in Latin America or Spain without extra charge. You will find the same teaching method in all our Spanish schools.

4. Will I get a certificate after finishing the program?

Yes, you will get a certificate that specifies the level of Spanish achieved and the amount of hours you have taken. You will get also a progress report which includes the skills developed during your course and a recommendation letter from your teacher.

5. Will I receive university credits?

You can receive university credits for attending to our schools but you should first visit your school’s language department in order to know the specific requirements. Common requests from universities are: course syllabus, talking to other teachers who know the program, classroom hours, course levels, academic policies, receiving progress reports from your teachers while abroad and giving you a test upon your return. We will help you gather all the necessary paperwork and you may schedule an interview with your academic advisor if needed.

6. How am I going to develop my Spanish skills?

Our methods combine both theory and practice, addressing all of the linguistic and functional pragmatic aspects of the spoken language, along with key socio-cultural information essential for you to gain proficiency and in order to achieve your goals. Grammar, reading, writing, listening, speaking and vocabulary are always integrated in order to approximate you to an authentic communicative environment.
You will begin with practical situations. Grammar lessons will be introduced gradually during the process. Lessons' topics and contents are related to daily life’s situations.

7. How many levels are there?

COINED offers 3 different levels following the requisites and guidelines from the Common European Framework of Reference. Each level is divided into 2 sublevels varying from lesser to greater linguistic capability: Basic (A), Intermediate (B), Advanced (C).

8. How many lessons do I need to reach a different level?

It depends on the level you already have, the one you want to reach and the kind of program you are taking. If you are a beginner, it takes approximately 40 to 60 group lessons per week to get you into the next level. But if you don’t have enough time you can reduce the time at half by achieving the same level with private lessons. For further information please contact us. We will be happy to help.

9. Is the study material included in the Spanish course?

In almost every destination the study material, according to your level, is included. In case you choose a destination that doesn't include it, we will let you know.

10. What is a typical day like?

You can take lessons from 9 AM to 1 PM or from 2 PM until 6 PM according to your schedule and your program.
Afternoon classes (2 PM to 6 PM) are usually reserved for students requesting additional hours or different programs.
Many days include school activities in the afternoon or the evening.

11. When do I have to register to the program?

You should register at least four weeks before the program starts to guarantee you a spot in our schools.  For bookins done lless than four weeks before the start date, we cannot guarantee your place in a group but you can write or call us to check for availability in such cases.

12. If I want to combine destinations, do I have to register at each separate location?

No, if you are planning to combine your destination simply register at the location you will be at first, and then indicate which date you plan to switch to another school.
